A VoIP Adapter or ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) is a device that converts analog signals from a conventional phone into a format acceptable for transmission over an Internet connection, and vice versa at the receiving end. This device is commonly used to deliver VoIP phone service to users that can connect existing analog phones or other devices that would otherwise connect to a regular phone line.
CI Gear offers a variety of VoIP Adapters that work with both SIP and IAX protocols. SIP is an industry standard VoIP protocol used by most manufacturers of IP Phone Systems, VoIP Gateways and IP Phones. IAX is the VoIP protocol of choice for many Asterisk based phone system users due to its versatility and resilience to traversing firewalls. For users of Asterisk based systems, we generally recommend using a product that supports both SIP and IAX protocols.
